Manufacturing

Bridge the Gap Between Legacy Operations and Industry 4.0

Manufacturing enterprises run on ERP systems, IBM i platforms, and legacy MES environments that hold decades of production logic, bill of materials data, and supply chain relationships. The challenge is not replacing them. It is connecting them — safely and quickly — to the digital capabilities that modern operations demand.

What is holding manufacturing innovation back?

The ambition to digitize operations, achieve end-to-end supply chain visibility, and connect shop floor equipment to cloud analytics is clear. The barrier is almost always ERP, IBM i, and legacy MES that hold operational truth but were never designed to share it at modern speed.

Real-time supply chain and logistics visibility

Expose inventory, order status, and logistics data from legacy ERP and IBM i systems as real-time APIs — feeding supply chain visibility platforms, demand planning tools, and logistics systems without batch delays.

Shop floor and IoT integration

IoT sensors, digital twins, and production analytics need operational context from legacy MES and ERP to calculate true OEE and reflect real production status.

B2B customer portal and order management digitization

Give distributors and B2B customers self-service order tracking, pricing, and inventory availability without a core ERP replacement.

Legacy ERP migration and augmentation

Expose critical ERP functions as APIs, shift workloads progressively to cloud-native services, and run legacy and modern environments in parallel until a safe cutover.

Predictive maintenance and data lake hydration

Generate APIs and data feeds from legacy ERP and MES so cloud data lakes and analytics platforms can consume historical production data without schema changes.

Reduce legacy integration complexity and cost

Replace fragile point-to-point integrations and ESB layers connecting ERP, MES, WMS, and partners with direct, standards-based APIs.

Connect operations. Accelerate digitization. Reduce risk.

Where we deliver value in manufacturing

These are the manufacturing digitization initiatives where legacy systems create the most friction — and where a bridge layer between operational systems and modern platforms removes it.

Shop Floor and IoT Integration

Connect work orders, bill of materials, production schedules, and historical throughput from MES and ERP to digital twins and IoT analytics so machine data and operational data correlate in real time.

Real-Time Supply Chain and Logistics Visibility

Generate standards-based APIs from legacy ERP and IBM i inventory and order functions so supply chain platforms get live data without custom connectors or middleware.

B2B Customer Portal and Order Management Digitization

Expose order management, pricing, and inventory functions from legacy ERP and IBM i as REST APIs so distributors and dealers get a self-service digital experience.

Legacy ERP Migration and Augmentation

Wrap critical ERP functions as APIs, shift specific workloads to cloud-native services, and run legacy and modern environments in parallel with guaranteed data consistency.

Predictive Maintenance and Data Lake Hydration

Feed maintenance records, production runs, downtime events, and quality results from legacy operational systems into cloud data lakes without complex ETL or batch lag.

Phased Coexistence

Keep existing ERP, MES, IBM i, and shop-floor systems running while new digital services scale around them. Workloads shift in waves. The core stays stable.

How it works with your core systems

ERP, MES, IBM i, and operational systems do not need to be replaced. Connect to what exists; generate cloud-ready APIs and data feeds. Legacy and cloud run in parallel.

Proven across manufacturing and industrial operations

Manufacturing and industrial enterprises across the Americas and Asia connect IBM i, ERP, and SAP environments to modern cloud platforms — without replacing the cores that run production.

Grupo HerdezGrupo Herdez

IBM i order handling connected to Google Cloud — within a day

Challenge. Grupo Herdez needed to connect IBM i (AS/400) to the cloud for modern order handling, exposing RPG programs, CL procedures, and DB2 stored procedures. Previous connectivity attempts had failed, leaving order workflows siloed.

Solution. A standard IBM i connector exposed those legacy functions as cloud-native services from input metadata, then deployed them to Google Cloud using Application Integration by Google. No specialist legacy skills were required beyond the team already in place.

Results. The initial AS/400 connection was established within minutes. Services were defined and deployed to Google Cloud within one day. The team can now independently define and deploy additional services.

“OpenLegacy and Application Integration by Google is the most efficient solution to unlock and leverage our IBM i core.”

JSWJSW Steel

Real-time error detection and SAP Quality Control integration for a global steel manufacturer

Challenge. JSW Steel needed error reporting across a decentralized data collection system on the shop floor, plus seamless transfer into SAP Quality Control. Proprietary machine databases had no standard way to pass error codes to Oracle or SAP, so issues such as incorrect dimensions could go unnoticed.

Solution. Microservice APIs encapsulated machine-to-Oracle transfer, added Java-based error handling, and surfaced shop-floor exceptions into SAP ECC Quality Control using in-house developers and open standards.

Results. Error detection now happens in real time, reducing waste and cost. The integration supports a 300 records/sec SLA and removed the need for scarce specialist skills.

“As a major manufacturer, error detection is incredibly important not only for efficiency but also the bottom line.”
